Multidisciplinary creative duo Edwige Massart and Xavier Wynn of EMnXW present their latest series, ‘the heads’ — a collection of surrealist portraits created from found objects, memories and a fascination with medical imagery. every letter selected has a personal and specific relevance and characteristic.
Each story begins by selecting found objects from a collection edwige began when she was four years old, when she found her first piece of a roman mosaic in the desert of israel. her insatiable curiosity into the world around her, the impetus for the collection, drives the plot, conflict and theme for each ‘heads” story. EMnXW‘s actual collection, coral vowels, leaf consonants and bottle cap punctuation, becomes the vocabulary for the language in which the story is told.
Xavier’s fascination with medical images creates character and setting for the story. he was nine years old and discovered the ‘sliced bodies’ exhibition lining the walls of a staircase at the field museum of natural history; the literal inspiration for ‘the heads’. this started an obsession with the hidden inner workings of human bodies and minds.
