RIVER POOL, created by Ottò Vincze, is a temporary space installation in the Szentendre branch of the Danube, with a visual focus, also playful in the title. This light and airy piece is site-specific, large-scale and gives the impression of being spontaneously placed there. At first glance, it is much more than a playful adventure for the eyes that an intellectual question for the mind.
The buoys in the form of huge billiard balls swing gently with the rhythm of the water, or follow the waves of the ships passing over the surface. However, unlike the usual game of billiards, these external effects do not move the position of the balls, but remain fixed in their position, while the current beneath the surface puts them in motion.
Also the archeology of the river bank has played a role in the choice of the place, together with the physical characteristics and parameters of the surroundings and the proximity to the city center.
This installation is located near the site of the ancient port, which was the center of trade and the waterway to reach the farthest points of Europe. He played a significant role in making Szentendre’s wine culture famous, as well as giving a boost to the latter growth of its architectural and artistic culture.
In terms of appearance, the buoys are exact copies of the colors and the numbering of the real billiard balls. It does not take much, however, to detect some irregular between them, with unusual signs, to complete the usual set.
Indicate their neutral autonomy from both groups of solids and strips with their white color. The markings on their sides are three different versions under the banner of the Privilegiális Szentendre Dealers Association, which are well known in Szentendre. Even today, the 18th century.
